Paulie Malignaggi Walks Out with Campbell Hatton in Honour of Ricky

A Beautiful Full‑Circle Moment': In a moment that transcended rivalry and touched every heart in the Manchester arena, Paulie Malignaggi walked to the ring on Saturday night with the ultimate show of respect: Campbell Hatton by his side. The bare-knuckle fighter, once a fierce foe of British icon Ricky Hatton, made the poignant gesture to honour the Hitman's lasting legacy in front of the city that worships him. Escorted by Ricky's son, Malignaggi's ring walk at the AO Arena on 16 May 2026 was more than a fight entrance. It was a quiet, powerful tribute to a man who defined an era of British boxing and earned the undying love of his people. The sight of Campbell, a proud young man carrying his family name, standing shoulder to shoulder with one of his father's old adversaries, spoke of the deep bonds forged inside and outside the ropes. In Manchester, the roar that greeted them held nothing but warmth, admiration and a shared understanding of what the Hatton name means. Ricky Hatton tragically took his own life on 14 September 2025 at the age of 46. In the aftermath, Campbell spoke of a family "absolutely heartbroken," sharing that his father always called him his "little Mini-Me". "We had so many plans coming up, so it has knocked us for six," Campbell said. "But we are trying to be there for each other". Malignaggi has never hidden his respect for the man who stopped him in the 11th round of their 2008 world title fight in Las Vegas. Their epic clash was built on needle but sealed with mutual regard, and this walkout—part of a broader partnership with the Ricky Hatton Foundation to support mental health awareness—was a beautiful full-circle moment. For Campbell, representing his father on such a stage, his composed presence told its own story of love and continuity. It was honour in its purest form: a former enemy paying homage, a son carrying the torch, and a city wrapping its arms around them both. Photo credit: Campbell Hatton / Facebook
