Hamzah Sheeraz Crowned UK’s Newest World Champion

Hamzah Sheeraz is a world champion. On May 23, 2026, the Ilford fighter stopped Germany’s Alem Begic in the second round to win the vacant WBO super‑middleweight title. The fight took place at “Glory in Giza,” an event held in front of the Pyramids of Giza and broadcast live on DAZN. Sheeraz, now 23‑1‑1 with 19 knockouts, dropped Begic (29‑1‑1) with a brutal left hook to the body. The 39‑year‑old German could not beat the referee’s count. The official time of the stoppage was 2:33 of round two. After the win, Sheeraz called out the rest of the 168‑pound division. “I will collect all the belts,” he said. “This time next year, you could see Hamzah Sheeraz as the unified champion.” The victory places Sheeraz among the UK’s best. A photo from The Ring Magazine shows a “UK World Champions” montage. The list includes several British titleholders from May 2026: Lewis Crocker (IBF welterweight champion), Dalton Smith (WBC super‑lightweight champion), Daniel Dubois (WBO heavyweight champion), and Josh Kelly (IBF light‑middleweight champion). The name Ping also appears – likely a reference to rising star Chantelle Ping, a British amateur who has announced plans to turn professional later this year. The montage also includes former champion Lennox Lewis, a nod to British boxing history. Sheeraz’s win capped a huge night in Egypt. Now, his name sits proudly next to these champions.
