Devin Haney Stirs the Pot: “Let’s Do It, Keyshawn” as Super-Fight Edges Closer
The road to a mouth-watering showdown between Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis just got a lot shorter. A heated social-media back-and-forth and a significant rankings shake-up have turned a simmering rivalry into a very real possibility for 2026. The spark was lit when former lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis traded words with Bill Haney, father, trainer and manager of three-division titleholder Devin Haney. The exchange immediately reignited interest in a clash between two of boxing’s brightest young talents. Within days, the WBO made a decisive move, elevating 140lb contender Davis to the No.1 spot in the welterweight rankings, directly behind Haney. Devin Haney didn’t waste a moment. Spotting the news on X, the 33-0 (15 KOs) star fired off a simple but emphatic message: “Let’s do it, Keyshawn.” Haney is riding high off a November victory over former champion Brian Norman Jnr. Meanwhile, 2021 U.S. Olympic silver medalist Davis, 15-0 (10 KOs), is fresh from a dominant hometown win over Nahir Albright in Norfolk, Virginia. Davis had already confronted the elder Haney face-to-face, demanding the fight be made, to which Bill Haney reportedly replied he would “stand on it.” Despite industry whispers linking Haney to Zuffa Boxing, an official close to the situation confirmed to BoxingScene on Tuesday that there are no immediate contractual hurdles preventing the bout from being negotiated. For a sport often bogged down by politics, that clarity is a rare gift. Now all that remains is for the talking to stop and the ink to dry. If both camps are true to their word, Devin Haney versus Keyshawn Davis could be one of the defining fights of the year. No hesitation. No dodging. Just two elite competitors on a collision course.
