Zuffa Boxing Lands in UK with a Bang on Busy June 6
Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing made a thunderous UK debut in Bournemouth on Saturday night, while Matchroom delivered a solid domestic card up in Sheffield. At the Bournemouth International Centre, Zuffa Boxing 07 was everything the brash promotion promised—an action-packed, stoppage-heavy slugfest. Local hero Chris Billam-Smith (now 22-2) overwhelmed rugged Canadian Ryan Rozicki in the main event, forcing a corner retirement at the end of the seventh round after sustained punishment. The co-feature produced high drama as Cheavon Clarke climbed off the canvas twice in Round 4 before roaring back to stop Jack Massey in the seventh. The knockout theme continued throughout: Lee Cutler dispatched Aaron Sutton inside three rounds after Sutton suffered a dislocated shoulder, Stephen McKenna needed just 64 seconds to finish Casey James Streeter, and Olympic bronze medallist Sam Hickey stopped Todd Tompkins in two. The lone distance fight saw Kazakhstan’s Ivan Dychko edge Harvey Dykes via split decision in a heavyweight chess match. Up in Sheffield, Matchroom’s injury-hit card saw Josh Padley retain his EBU European super-featherweight title via split decision over Aqib Fiaz. On the undercard, Ibraheem Sulaimaan delivered a shutout masterclass against Ibrahim Nadim (100-90, 100-90, 98-92) to claim the English super-featherweight crown, while Aaron Bowen broke down Troy Coleman for a ninth-round stoppage. Heavyweight prospect Leo Atang also impressed with a brutal first-round knockout of Fouad Shaili. From Bournemouth’s fists of fury to Sheffield’s title action, June 6 delivered plenty for British fight fans. Photo credits to Zuffa Boxing
