Canelo Alvarez vs Mbilli Results: “Mexico vs World” WBC Title Win & Full Undercard Recap
Canelo Alvarez is a three-time WBC super middleweight champion after outclassing the previously unbeaten Christian Mbilli via unanimous decision (115-112, 116-111, 117-110) in the “Mexico vs The World” main event at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. The 36-year-old Mexican icon neutralized Mbilli’s aggression with precise counterpunching, regaining the belt he lost to Terence Crawford 13 months earlier. “This feels like my first title,” Canelo said post-fight.
The undercard delivered mixed results for Team Mexico. Jaime Munguia retained his WBA super middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Nikita Zon after a brutal Round 6 war. Rafael Espinoza also defended his WBO featherweight belt against late replacement Ricardo Blandon. However, the international team ultimately won the event 5-4, with Carl Jammes Martin (Philippines) defeating David Picasso for the WBC Silver featherweight title and Japan’s Reito Tsutsumi scoring a second-round stoppage.
Who should Canelo fight next? Top contender and mandatory challenger Lester Martinez is waiting in the wings, but the boxing world is clamoring for an all-Mexican mega-fight against David Benavidez. Who do you want to see Canelo fight next? Drop your pick in the comments below.
