From White Collar to World Champion: Wardley vs. Dubois Fight Night Preview

The official weights are in, and tonight two of Britain’s most devastating heavyweights collide for the WBO world title. Here’s how Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois arrived at this moment. Fabio Wardley’s Unlikely Rise Fabio Wardley’s story reads like a Hollywood script. Unlike almost every other world-level fighter, he never had a single amateur bout. He walked into a gym at 20 years old, working a desk job in recruitment, and competed in just four white‑collar contests for charity and fitness before turning professional in 2017. What he lacked in pedigree he made up for in raw power: the 30‑year‑old has since racked up an undefeated 20‑0‑1 record with 19 knockouts. Wardley’s journey from unlicensed halls to the top of the division has been methodical. He collected the English title with a third‑round knockout of Simon Vallily in 2020, then stopped Nathan Gorman to claim the vacant British belt in November 2022. A Commonwealth crown followed in October 2023 when he halted David Adeleye. But the night that truly announced him as a world‑level operator came on 25 October 2025, when he upset former WBO titleholder Joseph Parker via 11th‑round TKO to become the WBO mandatory challenger. When Oleksandr Usyk later vacated the belt, Wardley was elevated to full WBO heavyweight world champion – Britain’s 11th. Daniel Dubois: The “Dynamite” Kid If Wardley’s path was unconventional, Daniel Dubois’ was written in boxing books. Born in Greenwich, he was a five‑time national junior champion and British senior amateur titlist, spending time in the GB Elite programme. The 27‑year‑old turned professional in 2017 alongside his younger sister Caroline, and his concussive power earned him the nickname “Dynamite”. Dubois’ trophy cabinet quickly overflowed. He secured the British and Commonwealth titles in 2019 by outpointing Nathan Gorman, and added the WBO International and WBC Silver straps the same year. In June 2022 he journeyed to Miami and knocked out Trevor Bryan in four rounds to become WBA (Regular) world champion. After losing that belt to Usyk, Dubois rebuilt with three statement victories: a 10‑round destruction of Jarrell Miller, an eighth‑round doctor’s stoppage of Filip Hrgović, and – most spectacularly – a fifth‑round knockout of Anthony Joshua in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in September 2024. That win earned him the IBF heavyweight title, making him a two‑time world champion. Tonight’s Showdown: Official Weights At Friday’s weigh‑in, WBO champion Wardley scaled 242.2 lbs (110 kg), while challenger Dubois came in at a career‑high 251.7 lbs (114.2 kg). Promoter Frank Warren has dubbed the match‑up a “heavyweight Hagler‑Hearns”, and with both men boasting 95% knockout ratios, few expect it to go the distance. Wardley’s path has been improbable; Dubois’ has been inevitable. Tonight at Manchester’s Co‑op Live Arena, those two trajectories collide with the WBO heavyweight title on the line. 📸 Photo credit: Frank Warren / Facebook
