FABIO WARDLEY ACTIVATES REMATCH CLAUSE FOR DUBOIS SEQUEL LATER THIS YEAR
The heavyweight division’s most thrilling domestic rivalry is set for a second chapter. Queensberry Promotions have officially confirmed that Fabio Wardley has exercised the immediate rematch clause following his stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in last Saturday’s WBO world title fight at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena. Wardley, now 20-1-1, was stopped in the 11th round of a punishing, back-and-forth war that is already being touted as a leading Fight of the Year candidate. Despite climbing off the canvas and landing a dramatic knockdown of his own inside the opening 10 seconds, the Suffolk man was ultimately overwhelmed by Dubois’ relentless power assault. Under the terms of the original contract, Wardley retained the right to force a direct return bout, and Queensberry have moved swiftly to confirm the clause has been triggered. A statement from the Hall of Fame promoter read: “Queensberry can confirm that Fabio Wardley has activated the rematch clause following his defeat in last week’s WBO world title fight against Daniel Dubois at the Co-op Live in Manchester. All parties will now work towards a rematch of their fight of the year contender for later in 2026. Time to go again!” Wardley himself has broken his silence with a simple message of intent. “I said I’d be back, and I meant it,” Wardley stated. “I’ve triggered the clause for an immediate rematch with WBO heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois. I know what I need to fix. I’ll leave no stone unturned.” Dubois, 22-3, captured the vacant WBO title with the victory and immediately called for a shot at the winner of the rescheduled Fury-Usyk trilogy. Those unification plans may now be forced to wait, with the Greenwich powerhouse contractually bound to grant Wardley his shot at redemption first. Negotiations over a venue and exact date will commence in the coming days, with late autumn or early winter the target. Stadium venues and a major UK outdoor event are understood to be under consideration for what shapes up as one of the most anticipated heavyweight rematches in British boxing history. 📸 Photo credit: Frank Warren Facebook #DuboisWardley2 #WBO #Queensberry #HeavyweightBoxing #LatestBoxing
